If you purchased a home in 2019, 2020 will be the first year that you’re paying a full year of real estate taxes on that property. Here are a couple of items that may save you hundreds of dollars.
• First, I would like to remind you to file for tax exemptions such as “Homestead”. These exemptions probably won’t eliminate your Florida property taxes, but they can certainly help your pocketbook. If you live in your home and it is your principal residence, you must file before March 1st.
• Second, if you sold a home in the state of Florida in the last 24 months, you may have “Save Our Homes” savings that you can transfer to your new residence in Volusia County.
Contact your local property appraiser to discuss either of these possibilities.
